I visited my sister and I had Mitho Lolo, rice-mustard curd, pakoras, potato bhaji.. puris, dhal paratha,……everything cold. We are supposed to eat cold food for the whole day….
All my elders are gone and the celebration of these festivals, which our families used to enjoy, are also diminishing…
I remember, when I was a kid, this festival used to be celebrated with much fun and frolic. Mom would make the food one day before on kerosene stove and then she would put the red tikka and rice on the stove. The stove would be then declared cold and nothing would be cooked on it for the next day.
An evening before, She would make a great variety of food like dhal paratas, sai Bhaji, pakoras, rice-matho, sweet lolo. All the extended family would be invited to our house. There would be some pooja in the house and the pundit would come home. Everybody would eat this cold food and then all the family members would play cards the whole day. We kids would get kharchi from everybody and the day would pass with lot of masti.
But now, with all the elders gone away forever, and the extended family distributed around the world, and youngster, unaware of our culture, this is just one another day……

Perform pooja and then eat the food. The food had a spread of Kokis, Aloo, Moong Parathas , Bheendi, Bheea, Tossed salads, Curd Raita etc... GOOD write up Pushpa

Times are surely changing.Private Reply to Rajan Bhavnani | Sep 04, 2007 12:24 pm | | re: Happy fiesta!! | # | Anil Goel | | Man I lovvvvvved chotha and enjoyed mattha :p :p ...still burping happily :) Private Reply to Anil Goel | Sep 04, 2007 1:07 pm | | re: re: Happy fiesta!! | # | Awaken the Gaint Within. | | Pushpa, it sounded more like a FOOD FESTIVAL.LOL Private Reply to Awaken the Gaint Within. | Sep 04, 2007 5:03 pm | | re: re: re: Happy fiesta!! | # | Pushpa Moorjani | | Rajan I, like others, am surprised too. Did you really not know that this festival existed? I am sure you are kidding. And you must be kidding too when you suggest that we re-heat the food in microwave.. you sure have a good sense of humor….
Rajiv.. You are right, it is called Thadri
Anil.. I enjoy matha too
Rainbow Sindhis are very fond of food and every festival is associated and centered on food…….

It is a fact - Thadri is meant to appease the goddess in charge of "mata" / pox.Private Reply to R Kumar | Sep 05, 2007 2:37 am | | re: re: re: re: re: Happy fiesta!! | # | Rajan Bhavnani | | Pushpa,
I know it as thadri.
As for the microwave, I am saying it tongue in cheek, because technolgy does have a bearing on festivals.
So would microwaving it, ruin the occasion of thadri?
And yes, I like to have a good laugh, even at myself!
Best

I know Most Sindhi Festivals are centered around Food, Infact most Festivals of other communities are also Food Centered. BTW I am a Sindhi myself , so yes I know how we have a ball of a time.
BTW Why dont we have a GS FOOD MIXER ... start a new festival.
Any Suggestions ...What say guys??
