Firstly, Congratulations to Pushpa for the effort, and Rajiv Lulla who has shown courage and has a Planned Path in going ahead to complete his read, write and speak Sindhi by 2009. It's amazing and inspiring to hear, I am gonna make attempt to READ & WRITE Sindhi very soon - which my Father still does.

Refering to Waqar Sayeen who has written the following:

" Moreover one thing I did not understand that I am sharing with you so that someone might guide me is why we sindhis have been always influenced or impressed from other cultures or people easily? Why we are always on the defence side historically as other nations always attacked us and destroyed us. Like I read Thatta(sindh) has been destroyed and rebuild seven times in history. Are we coward nation or what? Dont we have a rich culture and civilization that we should be proud of ? "

Let me give my two paisa contribution in short : I am not fully aware of the total Sindhi Community world over, but historically we have a Vast Cultural back ground. Mohon-jo-dara civilization was all about Sindhis.

Thatta Sindh is where my roots lie, meaning Grand-Parents and Parents were born and brought up there, migrated in 1945 to Mumbai India after which I was born. We are Sindhi Bhatia's and we got the name of Bhatia's from the word Bath - Bath is a warring weapon carried on the front line by the soldiers in ancient period, after which swords and other deadly weapons were carried. So Bhatia Sindhis were warriors of the sort. We are no more warriors, but have not changed our culture or have followed other people blindly.

The Bhatia's had opportunity to do pearl diving in Bahrain and that is how some 400 years back - they travelled from Thatta to Bahrain in small boats and ships and invaded the Middle-east, that is how you find somany Bhatia Community people settled in here, I am in Bahrain too presently. Started with pearl diving and became businessmen.

We are still the lot who are vegetarian, and donot consume alchol (there are exceptions to every case, and all five fingers are not alike) so culturally we are a strong community, but being out-going and having a flare for good food, luxaries and willingness to work the hard way up, we have diversified into this world - I always tell that Sindhis are the only people who call world their home.

So be proud of being a Sindhi.

Rgds
Harry
