Dear Pushpa, As usual nicely worded.
Mr. Rajiv, the question is not 'Are you proud to be a Sindhi' but Waqar's query is "My question is can we do something about it now? Can we just identify ourselves as only sindhi and nothing else?"
I think we were in keeping with that thread. Most of us second and third generation sindhis who cannot identify ourselves only as 'sindhis'. We have amalgamated ourselves in a fabric of society called India. Others in a country called Pakistan and there is a marked country centric identity prior to everything else.
As someone who frequently crosses the border, i notice there is great warmth and love on a people to people level...but the divide of 60 years is marked. If its merely talking about nurturing a commonality based on language and a semblance of culture then its plausible a goal.
But as you wisely put it, If you want your child to be proud sindhi, then its got to be more. Don’t you think we have to give them inspiration and icons to look up to and identify first? Then it wont matter if its sindhi Muslim or sindhi Hindu.
Waqar goes on to ask
"Please correct me if I am wrong but the aim of this group should be to collect all sindhis on one platform and burry all the hatred caused by any circumstances happened in past."
I am not sure if that’s the aim of the Global Sindhi network. Do we have a socio-political agenda? Can we use this platform to mitigate the pain of the past... I don’t know. But, yes, we can ...only if there are stories of warmth, of trust, of faith that will change the dark stories we have heard before... it’s got to be about humanity!
